Some artists dabble in AI. Eliza has been living in it since 2019.
Based in New York City, ElizaDesignAI is one of the most prolific and creative forces in the AI art space. With formal art school training and years of digital experimentation, she’s built a distinctive visual language that’s instantly recognizable.
Her work? Pure sensory overload—in the best possible way.
Eliza creates color-drenched digital worlds that exist somewhere between design, fashion, and futuristic surrealism. One day her palette is soft and romantic. The next, it’s surreal and electric. She plays with culture, mood, texture, and feeling with remarkable fluidity.
What makes her truly prolific isn’t just volume—it’s her conceptual framework. Each Instagram project becomes a “collection.” Think The Just on the Edge of Unraveling Collection or The My Best Friend Is a Robot Collection. Tiny universes. Specific ideas fully explored.

Her creative process is intuitive. She reads extensively. Researches deeply. Then trusts the flow. “I begin with a small idea and let the work unfold without forcing it,” she explains. Materials, tools, and constraints guide her toward unexpected places.
You’ll find her prettier, more playful work on her main account. The messier, moodier experiments? Those live at @perfectagala. She also runs the AI art magazine @AithenaArtMag and belongs to multiple collectives: @echoesmag.ai, @frmwrkai, and @aimuses.ai.
Her mission is simple but vital: make art that looks good, feels a little weird, makes people smile, and reminds us that color is not dead.
In this interview, one of AI art’s most creative and consistently innovative voices shares her journey, her process, and what keeps her creating.
Let’s dive into Eliza’s technicolor world.
Can you introduce yourself?
I am based in NYC. I’ve been making art and telling stories for as long as I can remember. I studied traditional fine art in college, followed by a liberal arts degree and then an MFA. Art, exploring narrative forms, and image making are lifelong interests and also what I do for a living.
How long have you been using generative AI?
I was invited to beta test an early generative art tool in 2019, and I’ve been honing how I use various tools ever since. I now use styles I have trained myself. I do not use it professionally.
What is your biggest source of inspiration currently?
This is a big question as I am a voracious consumer of art and media and any inspiration list could be very long..
Ok, here are 3 art related things on my radar this week.
Portrait of Comtesse d’Haussonville by Ingres. I’m currently fascinated by this painting. Ingres is often described as a realist, yet on closer inspection the portrait contains many impossible details; subtle distortions and sinuous exaggerations that quietly undermine strict realism.
Mat Collishaw is a well-established mixed-media artist who is unafraid to experiment with AI in his exhibited work. I currently keep my IRL art and AI art very separate, but I admire his approach and may experiment with this kind of hybrid practice sometime in the future.
I just saw an art show – Cornelia Foss | Little Red at Hirschl & Adler in New York, and I loved it.
I’ve also been reading a lot of poetry lately and going to a lot of readings.
Which AI tools do you use the most and why?
I use Krea mostly and have trained styles there, on Flux. I like Hailuo AI for video, it’s the most romantic of the video tools. I find Sora too realistic. I love Nano Banana for editing and altering but not for creating.
Any advice for those who want to get started with AI art?
Take your time finding your voice, but don’t box yourself in by using the same style over and over. Experiment freely. Developing a truly unique style means learning how to train datasets, and refining your eye.
Editing and post-production matter just as much as generation. I work every AI image I make, narrowing many versions down to one or two, cleaning up details, upscaling, adjusting curves, and refining again.
But the main thing is to express yourself and have fun and to enjoy the wonderfully supportive AI community on IG and the unique power of AI art to conjure dreams.
